Delicious high-quality potato products is what the globally operating family-run company McCain Foods is known for. In Burley, Idaho, one of the largest freezer warehouses in the US has opened its doors in autumn 2019.
McCain now operates the largest fully automatic system for freezer goods, with 14 levels and an area of approximately 17,000 square metres. The warehouse was erected by New Cold, the global specialist for automated freezer warehouses. Once again, NewCold relied on the TGW Distributor Business Unit as their partner for high-performance conveyor technology.
During the selection process, TGW had a clear advantage: NewCold was already familiar with TGW's portfolio and its specialists' freezer expertise from previous joint projects. "Automation is one of the keys to meeting our customers' needs. They are in the process of reorganising their supply chains in order to achieve the greatest efficiency and the lowest costs possible," explains Peter Verharen, Vice President Project Management at NewCold. "Automation is the only way to achieve the throughput that the market demands."

The company headquartered in the Netherlands focuses on target markets in the US, Europe and Oceania. NewCold is a leading company regarding the development and operation of energy-efficient systems for deep-freeze intralogistics.
The business model of NewCold is very successful thanks to its uniqueness in the field of freezer applications. The company attaches great importance to trustworthy partnerships. NewCold and the Distributor Business Unit have been business partners since 2013.
The goods are delivered to the freezer warehouse, then two different options are used: Either the trucks are unloaded by means of system pallets or via the slip sheet forklift truck that will transport the load to the inbound area and onto a system pallet.
After that, the check station will perform the automatic weight and contour check so that the pallet can be handed over to the high-bay warehouse via a transfer device.
The order-specific retrieval of goods is handled via a pallet exchange device (system pallet, customer pallet, slip sheet). The goods issue area is ideally equipped with a pallet buffer with over 40 lines. Finally, the pallets are loaded onto trucks as well as trains.
Conclusion
The efficient pallet handling system specifically customised for the US market is greatly contributing to the high quality of the freezer intralogistics system.
From planning to realisation and Lifetime Services, systems integrators worldwide rely on the expertise of the TGW Distributor Business Unit viewed as a trusty business partner of high-quality solutions within our spectrum of services.
